Besides plants and animals, what other kinds of living things are there?
Answer:
How many other kinds of living things depends on which system you use. Back when I was in elementary school, everything was either a plant, an animal, or a protist. The systems have changed quite a bit due to advances in the science of genetics, and they are still changing as we learn more. Most current systems tend to divide living things into either five or six major groups.
The five kingdom model divides living things into the following groups:
Monera: Bacteria and blue green algae
Protista: Single celled organisms that move on their own
Fungi: Yeasts, molds, mushrooms
Plantae: Plants
Animalia: Animals
The six kingdom model divides Monera into two kingdoms, Bacteria and Archaea (blue green algae) The other kingdoms remain the same.
