Are You Having Problems With the Site?

Start by checking the tips below, to see if they will solve the problem.

Before the first hint of frustration, email me immediately at Membersupport(at)thehappyscientist.com

.
I can usually fix things quickly once I know they are not working properly.

  1. I never received my password.

    • If you did not get the email with your password, it may have been caught by your spam filter or blocked by your ISP. They may also be blocking my email responses to your request for help. Email me at Membersupport(at)thehappyscientist.com

To help me locate your account, include either the email address you used to set up the account or the username you selected. If you can't remember either, give me some hints and possible answers, and I will track it down.

Also please include a phone number, in case my emails are being blocked by your spam filter or ISP.

    • If you purchased a coupon code from another site, that is not your username or password. Use the coupon code to set up your account on the Basic Subscription page. If you need help with that, email your coupon code to me at Membersupport(at)thehappyscientist.com

  2. I can't log into the website.

If you are having problems logging in to the site, here are a few quick things to check.

    • Remember that user names and passwords are case sensitive. If your user name is "NewMember" then you cannot log in with "newmember".
    • Request a new password, using the link on the home page of the site.
    • Be sure that you have cookies enabled on your browser. Your browser needs the subscriber cookie to know that you are logged in. If you need help with that, email me.
    • If that does not solve the problem, please email me

  3. Every time I log in, I have to request a new password.

    Follow these steps carefully.

If you are currently logged in, and you can see "Welcome (username)" at the top of the left hand column, click here.

    1. Click on the "My Account" link in the Navigation block on the home page. That will take you to your user page.
    2. Click on the Edit tab.
    3. The first field you see is your Username. It is case sensitive, so be sure that you enter it correctly when you log in.
    4. Check to be sure that your email address is correct. This is the email address where I will send notifications of new videos, new passwords, etc.
    5. Enter a new password. Remember that like your username, this password is case sensitive. If your password is "Password" then you cannot log in with "password".
    6. Do not worry about making this a strong password. Keep it simple and easy to remember.

    7. Enter the same password again in the "Confirm Password" field.
    8. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and click "Save".

    9. If that does not solve the problem, please email me.

If you are not currently logged in, click here.

    1. Click the "request new password" link in the upper, left hand column of the page.
    2. Enter the email address you used when you set up your account. If you do not know which email address you used, email me at Membersupport(at)thehappyscientist.com
    3. Check your email. You should receive an email titled Replacement login information for (username) at The Happy Scientist
    4. In that email, you will see a long link, starting with: http://thehappyscientist.com/user/reset/ and followed by a lot of numbers and letters. Click that link, or copy it and paste it into your web browser.
    5. The first field you see is the email address where I will send notifications of new videos, etc. Correct this if it is wrong.
    6. Enter a new password. Remember that like your username, this password is case sensitive. If your password is "Password" then you cannot log in with "password".
    7. Do not worry about making this a strong password. Keep it simple and easy to remember.

    8. Enter the same password again in the "Confirm Password" field.
    9. If you check the box for "Opt-out of mass email messages", you will not get any notifications of new videos and other new resources.
    10. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and click "Save".

    11. If that does not solve the problem, please email me immediately.

  4. My coupon code does not work.

Please email me at : Membersupport(at)thehappyscientist.com
    Include the following information:

    • Your coupon code
    • Where you purchased it
    • The best email to use to reach you.
    • A phone number in case I cannot reach you by email.

  5. The videos will not play properly.

My videos are now hosted on Vimeo and Wistia, and one or the other should play on any computer, tablet, or phone. If the main video player does not work, try clicking the "If your system blocks Vimeo, click here to use the alternate player" link below it.

If you are getting an error message or the video does not play properly, please do the following:

    1. The first thing to try is to clear the cache on your web browser. Sometimes a corrupted, partial download in the cache will prevent you from watching the videos.
    2. Right-click on the video. That will open a menu of options. Try switching to the Flash player instead of the HTML5 player, to see if that works.
    3. Try playing the video with a different web browser, to see if that works.
    4. Go to: http://www.whatsmybrowser.org
This site will detect what browser, version, etc. you are using. It does not collect any sensitive user information. You will see a link at the top. Click "Copy"
    5. Email me
Paste the link from the "What Browser am I Using" site into the email. That will let me work with the video hosts to solve the problem.

If those tips do not solve the problem, please email me at: Membersupport(at)thehappyscientist.com

Tell me as much as you can about the problem, such as what web browser you are using, the name of the video that won't play, the page that you found a bad link on, etc.. The more I know about exactly what happened, what browser you are using, etc., the faster I will be able to solve the problem.
