The Hindenburg used hydrogen gas for lifting, which was flammable. Modern blimps use helium, which does not burn. Where does helium come from?

Answer:

Although helium is the second most abundant element in the universe, (hydrogen is #1), it is rare on Earth. Natural gas deposits in Texas, Kansas, and Oklahoma contain almost 2% helium, and they are the source of most of our helium. There are serious concerns that we are using up the helium supply very quickly, which could cause problems for many industries that rely on it.
