These flowers do not produce any nectar, but they are very popular with Queen Bumblebees. Why?
Answer:
While adult Bumblebees eat nectar, their larva eat pollen. This plant is called a Shooting Star, and it produces large quantities of pollen. Bumblebee queens will collect and store up pollen before they lay the first eggs to start a new hive. They like Shooting Stars because they produce LOTS of nutritious pollen for their future workers.
