Ladybugs or Ladybird Beetles are welcomed into most gardens, as they control many insect pests. They are often not welcome in vineyards. Why?

Answer:

Ladybugs protect themselves by "bleeding" an unpleasant, alkaloid toxin from their leg joints when they are attacked by predators. During the harvesting process, a few insects always get trapped with the grapes. Most of them don't cause any problems with the wine, but the alkaloids from Ladybugs give the wine an unpleasant taste, similar to the smell of cat urine.
