This is a Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow bush (Brunfelsia pauciflora), named because its flowers change color. When they first open, the petals contain many bubble-like vacuoles of pigments called anthocyanins. Over a period of days, these vacuoles give up their pigment, and the flowers change from purple to lavendar to white. They are being studied to learn more about why this happens.
