This bird usually nests on isolated beaches, but with more and more development, it is losing its natural breeding ground. Interestingly, for this bird it is a good thing, and their numbers are increasing. Why?

Answer:

Least Terns naturally nest on flat beaches. As these areas have been developed, the terns have started shifting their nests to flat rooftops. This give the eggs more warmth, and exposes them to fewer predators. As a result, more offspring survive.
