As we were cleaning up the frost-killed plants in the yard, I was delighted to find this. What is it?
Answer:
This is an egg case from a Carolina Praying Mantis. Our winters tend to be a mix of warm weather and freezes, so I don't know when this one will hatch, but I am keeping an eye on it. I REALLY want to get some footage of the young mantids emerging.
