How does this insect protect itself?
Answer:
It is a Ladybug, also known as a Ladybird, or Lady Beetle. The bright color serves as a warning to predators, but they have a backup plan. If they are disturbed, Ladybugs do something called "reflex bleeding." They force blood out of their leg joints. That blood is yellow or orange, has a bad smell, and contains an alkaloid toxin which makes many predators sick.
