All living things need energy.The main source of energy is the sun.the sun gives energy to the producer,and the prducer would be a plant.The plant gest's it's energy through a proces called photosyntnesis.Photosynthesis irugas the proces where a plant takes energy from the sun,whater and carbon and turn it into sugar.But not all plants get their energy from the sun.There are plants deep in the sea that get their energy from chemical energy.

Sugar helps a plant capture its energy, and stores it so it can be used later. But not all producers are plants and the sun isn't the ultimate source of energy. On the deep sea floor, food chains are based on chemical energy instead of solar energy. They use chemosynthesis to capture energy from the sulfar compunds. The bacteria stores that energy as sugar, just like the plants that have sunlight do. Once the producer has captured energy then it is eaten by animals and passed on in the food chain.
