Fire Diamond
This video is simply gorgeous to watch, Robert! You must have upgraded your equipment, for the first thing I did upon looking up at the screen was gasp at the clarity, color, and contrast. Simply vivid!
Part is due to equipment
Part is due to equipment upgrades (new camera!), and part to learning more about lighting and editing. Shooting flames is a LOT of fun, so I put extra time and effort into it.
the fire diamond versus triangle
QUESTION/CLARIFICATION: Doesn't the boric acid / fire retardant demonstration as shown really indicate a lack of sufficient heat -- as in the original triangle -- since it will ignite and continue to burn when in the flame of the candle?
Boric acid chemically
Boric acid chemically inhibits the release of combustible gases from burning cellulose. By stopping the chemical reactions, it is stopping the fire. Other flame retardants act at much higher temperatures, but they are not easily available for students to use.
Boric Acid
What was that green flame on the piece of paper that had the boric acid? Please don't email me, just reply on here.
Yes, boric acid produces a
Yes, boric acid produces a green flame when it burns. Check out my Fireworks Colors video for more flame colors: http://thehappyscientist.com/science-video/fireworks-colors

Very cool!
I love these experiments. We did this one in elementary school! Of course, we had to write an essay about it -- but that's probably why I remember it so well!
Mr. Krampf I love watching
Mr. Krampf I love watching your videos, keep them up. :) I was just wondering with this video; when one blows out a fire/candle, Which of the 4 aspects of the diamond are you taking away?
Blowing out a candle
When you blow out a candle, you are actually taking away the fuel. You can see what is going on in the Blowing Out a Candle video, http://thehappyscientist.com/science-video/blowing-out-candle
