Science Fair Resources
Are you ready for the Science Fair? Looking for a good topic? These are some of my experiments that can be easily adapted as science fair projects. I suggest that you watch the four Science Fair Panic videos first, to help you get started.

Video Title Description Topics Discussed
Measuring Lightning Use the Flash-Bang method to measure how far away the bolt was, and how long it was. Earth Science, math, techniques, Physical Science, measurement, science fair, weather, sound, waves
Selective Smelling How long can you smell something before the scent vanishes? brain, Life Science, science with food, techniques, human body, science fair, senses, adaptation
Noisy String Learn about sound while annoying.. I mean amusing your friends. techniques, tricks, Physical Science, science fair
Measuring in Feet Instead of measuring with a ruler, try measuring with your foot. Life Science, math, techniques, human body, measurement, science fair, skeleton
The Science of Pizza Is the cheese on a pizza really hotter than the crust? conduction, Physical Science, heat, density, science fair, water, variables
The Right Answer Sometimes the right answer is not the only answer. challenges, change of state, inertia, misconceptions, observation, Processes of Science, techniques, tricks, experiment/not experiment, scientific method, air pressure, critical thinking, physical change, density, science fair, water
The Compass and Magnetic Fields Use the compass you constructed in Video 149 to explore magnetic fields, from electric wires to your kitchen cabinets. challenges, charges, electricity, techniques, tricks, current, Physical Science, science fair, variables, magnetism
The Leyden Jar Learn to construct a 25,000 volt Leyden Jar from materials found around the house. This dramatic, yet safe, demonstration is a charges, electricity, investigation, techniques, Physical Science, critical thinking, electrostatics, science fair, energy, variables
Cartesian Diver Make a diver that will rise and fall at your command, if you know the science. challenges, tricks, gases, Physical Science, air pressure, gravity, liquids, density, science fair, matter
Radioactive What does it mean when we say that something is radioactive? Chemistry, misconceptions, techniques, atoms, Physical Science, science fair, energy
Making Craters Make your own craters, and compare them with photos of the real thing. Earth Science, moon, observation, Processes of Science, science with food, techniques, Physical Science, planets, solar system, models, science fair, motion, structures
The Stroop Effect How well does your brain work with two bits of information at the same time brain, challenges, Life Science, tricks, human body, science fair, variables, senses
Why Wet Things Won't Burn What is it about water that keeps things from burning? Processes of Science, techniques, combustion, conduction, Physical Science, heat, science fair, water, energy
Science Fair Panic, part 4 What if things go WRONG?!?!. challenges, observation, Processes of Science, science with food, techniques, chemical change, scientific method, control, science fair, variables, senses, plants
Science Fair Panic, part 3 This time we talk about controlling variables. misconceptions, observation, Processes of Science, science with food, chemical change, opinion/fact, repetition, scientific method, control, science fair, variables, senses, plants
Science Fair Panic, part 2 This time we talk about research and forming a hypothesis. experiment, Life Science, misconceptions, Processes of Science, science with food, techniques, testable, repetition, scientific method, science fair, plants
Science Fair Panic, part 1 Its time to start thinking about your Science Fair Project, but don't panic. Take a minute and set some goals. experiment, Processes of Science, science fair
Chromatography Can you tell which pen was used to write a message? Of course you can, if you know the science of chromatography. Chemistry, crime science, mixtures, techniques, molecules, density, science fair
Testing for Tannic Acid A fun but smelly test to find tannins in your food. Chemistry, indicator, science with food, techniques, chemical change, reactions, science fair, plants
The Science of Balance Understanding center of gravity and base can make it easier to balance. brain, center of gravity, challenges, techniques, human body, Physical Science, gravity, science fair, senses, structures
Light Speed Chocolate Use chocolate and your microwave oven to measure the speed of light. electromagnetic waves, experiment, math, science with food, techniques, Physical Science, measurement, science fair, light
Microwave Chocolate Combine science and chocolate to learn how a microwave oven works. electromagnetic waves, polar/nonpolar, science with food, techniques, Physical Science, heat, science fair
Hunting With an Umbrella What strange creatures would you hunt with an umbrella? behavior, biomes, environmental, flowering, Life Science, observation, spiders, techniques, amphibians, food web, insects, invertebrates, science fair, ecology, plants, adaptation
