Can you name the species of this bear, and three real, famous members of that species?
Correct! This is a Black Bear, even though it is brown in color. I took this shot in Sequoia National Park.
Bobbi hit is exactly right. Smokey the Bear was a real Black Bear cub that was injured in a forest fire. Winnipeg the Black Bear was the mascot for the 2nd Canadian Infantry Brigade in World War 1, and wound up living in the London Zoo, where she inspired the story of Winnie the Pooh. The third famous Black Bear was a bear that President Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot. It had been chased down by dogs and then tied to a tree for him to "hunt", but he refused. That story inspired the Teddy Bear toy. There are probably other famous Black Bears too.

young black bear?
I read that young bears are brown and turn black when they get older. Is that true?

Hi Morgan
Unfortunately, it is very hard to remove ink from ivory. Ivory is porous, so the ink can soak down below the surface. A lot depends on the type of ink. If your pen has permanent ink, then it may not be possible to remove the ink without damaging the ivory. It the pen has washable ink, then you can try using a mixture of soap and water.
I wish I could offer more help.

Dear Mr. Krampf,
Before I answer your question about the bear I need to know something. On my family's ivory key piano I was numbering my favorite keys and the ink went through the tape and it got on the keys. How do I get it to come off???????? I already used milk. It came off a bit but it is still showing a little. PLEASE RESPOND!!!
I think the bear is a grizzly. Two famous bears are Big Ben and Rocky.
Your Admirer,
Morgan
