I caught this large spider eating a dragonfly. As I watched, I noticed the two tiny spiders. Why are they in the web?

Excellent! The small spiders are kleptoparasitic spiders. Instead of building their own web, they steal food from the webs of other spiders. Because they are small and fast, they can usually get away with the theft, but occasionally, they wind up as a snack instead.

babies?

Are they baby spiders in the web who haven't left?

answer

Are they babies? We have a spider like this out by our shed.

I believe the little spider, closest to the large spider, is the baby of the large garden spider. The other may be a young orb weaver who has a symbiotic relationship with the large spider.
